Ilg delayed tackling Bach because he found the composer’s mathematical side intimidating and did not consider the music any easier to adapt than Beethoven.
He chose only two familiar favourites, the Air and Siciliano; the rest grew from preludes, a concerto, a Sarabande and four pieces from the Goldberg Variations that had caught his ear during weeks of listening.

The classical side contains only the source pieces used on the album, in album order. The jazz side presents the complete album whenever a dependable copy can be embedded.
“Goldberg C” remains unidentified, so the classical player omits it; the other eleven tracks have one recording each.
