Henrique Cazes brings Bach into the sound world of choro, directing an ensemble built around cavaquinho, bandolim, guitars and pandeiro rather than a European chamber group. Bach’s counterpoint acquires the lighter articulation and rhythmic lift of those Brazilian instruments.
Cazes had worked with Radamés Gnattali during his years in Camerata Carioca, and Gnattali’s music appears here alongside pieces by Abel Ferreira and Pixinguinha. Bach sits within that Brazilian lineage, culminating in a medley that joins Pixinguinha’s “Ele e Eu” to the Badinerie from Bach’s Second Orchestral Suite.
