The six-part New Jazz-Suite is the album’s cleverest construction, joining movements from six different Bach works as though they belonged to one suite.

Du Plessis’s series grew from live performances in the resonant church at Ernen, Switzerland, and the trio’s balance between prepared arrangement and improvisation remains audible.

The classical side contains only the source pieces used on the album, in album order. The jazz side presents the complete album whenever a dependable copy can be embedded.

The originalsVivaldi; Handel; J.S. Bach; Gluck · classical source works

The classical player presents each source once, in album order: one performance covers the Toccata and its Fugue, and one the three tracks drawn from Vivaldi’s Spring. The two Gluck tracks take separate performances: the Mélodie in Sgambati’s piano transcription and the Ballet des ombres heureuses in the orchestral original.
