Loussier found that Debussy’s orchestral writing could not simply be squeezed onto one piano.

He distributed some of the orchestral colour around the trio instead, giving harp-like material to André Arpino’s percussion and using the bottom of Benoît Dunoyer de Segonzac’s bass to create the submerged darkness of La cathédrale engloutie.
