Michel Godard’s serpent is both an early-music instrument and the ancestor of his other instrument, the tuba. On this live collaboration it becomes the link between Capella de la Torre’s shawms, dulcian, recorder, lute and theorbo and Markus Becker’s jazz piano.

The concert was recorded by NDR in Hanover in July 2012. Works by Henry VIII, Fabritio Caroso and Monteverdi sit beside anonymous Renaissance pieces and Godard’s own compositions, giving the period instruments and modern improvisers equal weight.
