Skip Martin arranged the complete Scheherazade as a sequence of handovers: each movement repeatedly moves from a straight symphonic statement to a jazz response, rather than keeping the two groups blended throughout.
His background suited the trick unusually well, since he had arranged for Count Basie before becoming a Hollywood orchestrator.
