Summer grew up near Schumann’s birthplace in Zwickau and had known these pieces since childhood.
She tested them in different keys and metres before choosing seven and joining them into a single solo-piano arc, so the four tracks behave more like chapters than separate arrangements.
Hear both
The classical side contains only the source pieces used on the album, in album order. The jazz side presents the complete album whenever a dependable copy can be embedded.
Three of the four tracks pair a piece from Kinderszenen with one from Album für die Jugend, so those tracks have a recording of each.
