Isaac Albéniz wrote Asturias for piano, although many listeners now know it chiefly through its guitar transcriptions. It first appeared as the Preludio in Chants d’Espagne and acquired the title Asturias only when a publisher added it to the Suite española after his death. Much of his Spanish piano music has travelled in the same way, becoming familiar through new instruments and arrangements.
