Falla drew deeply on Andalusian cante jondo and helped García Lorca organise the 1922 Granada competition intended to preserve it. The concentrated rhythms and dark orchestral colour of his music have travelled readily into jazz, from Hazel Scott and Tito Puente to the suspended atmosphere of Miles Davis and Gil Evans.
