Stravinsky’s relationship with jazz did not begin with other musicians borrowing his rhythms. In 1945 he wrote the Ebony Concerto for Woody Herman’s band, giving a jazz orchestra music in his own sharply accented language; the records here reverse that traffic, carrying The Firebird, The Rite of Spring and other scores into jazz.
