Chopin Meets The Blues
- Composer
- Chopin
- Released
- 2010
- Label
- Criss Cross Jazz
- Forces
- Piano, Guitar, Quartet
- Personnel
- Peter Beets piano, Reuben Rogers bass, Greg Hutchinson drums, Joe Cohn guitar
Beets heard something close to blue notes in Chopin’s chromatic embellishments, and believed the composer’s singable melodies helped prepare the ground for bebop.
The quartet tests that idea vigorously: slow nocturnes are accelerated, Joe Cohn takes the melody on guitar, and the F minor Nocturne returns at the end in an alternate take.
