Chopin

Chopin wrote overwhelmingly for the piano, the instrument that carries so much of jazz’s harmonic and improvising language. He was also a gifted improviser himself, at his best in the intimate rooms he preferred to large concert halls. Jazz musicians have consequently found more than beautiful melodies in his music: its rubato, chromatic harmony and Polish dance rhythms can all be loosened, swung or rebuilt.
