Personnel
Rino Vernizzi bassoon, Gaspare Tirincanti clarinet, Gianluca Renzi bass, Giampaolo Ascolese drums and percussion, with Timothy Miron reading the two spoken audio notes

Rino Vernizzi made the bassoon a jazz lead without giving up the orchestral career that took him to Santa Cecilia in Rome. On this live set it shares the front line with Gaspare Tirincanti’s clarinet, above bass and drums.

Recorded at Noto in 2000, the performance remained unreleased for 22 years. It catches Vernizzi’s two musical lives in the same programme: Bach is pulled sharply out of shape beside his own compositions, with the opening “Preludio” transformed so thoroughly that its source can no longer be identified.

The classical side contains only the source pieces used on the album, in album order. The jazz side presents the complete album whenever a dependable copy can be embedded.

Four classical recordings serve the five tracks with classical sources; position 2, “Preludio”, is omitted because the release credits it to J. S. Bach without identifying which prelude it uses.
