The album’s title probably combines żal, the famously difficult-to-translate Polish word associated with the emotional character of Chopin’s music, with the trio’s three musicians.
Benjamin Walter arranged its seven Chopin pieces and played piano, with Georges de Luca on bass and Jean-Maurice Martin on drums.
Producer Jacques Canetti, whose independent label released the record, had been promoting jazz in France since organising visits by Duke Ellington in 1931 and Louis Armstrong in 1933.
