Ted Rosenthal
Ted Rosenthal’s classical training did not disappear when winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition launched his career. He has said that his goal is to make classical pieces sound “natural and organic” in jazz, choosing harmonies, solo forms and rhythmic feels that suit each melody. The results range from solo Beethoven improvisations to trio encounters with Chopin, Gershwin and a steadily widening circle of composers.
