The Swingle Singers began almost by accident in Paris in 1962, when Ward Swingle gathered a group of session singers to vocalise Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier as an exercise. The exercise became Jazz Sébastien Bach and an international career, establishing a sound in which wordless voices could handle counterpoint with the lightness and rhythmic bite of a jazz group.
