Джаз в смокингах / Jazz in Tuxedos

Jazz in Tuxedos brings together the three sides of Georgy Garanian’s musicianship. He arranged the programme, conducted the Moscow Virtuosi and played the alto-saxophone solos heard through most of the record. Denis Matsuev takes the piano part in a programme that moves between jazz standards, orchestral jazz and Garanian’s transformations of classical music. Garanian died in January 2010, shortly before the album was released by the Georgy Garanian Foundation. The project survived him and continued to be performed in his name, bringing jazz into the concert hall without asking the orchestra to behave like decorative backing.
