Sibelius was already hovering over Shorter’s music: he named the composer as an inspiration for “Dance Cadaverous” on Speak No Evil. A few months later he went straight to the source with “Valse Triste”, although Blue Note left the whole session unheard for fourteen years before finally releasing it in 1979.
