This debut album gave the ensemble’s method its name: written arrangements act as a frame, but the players treat improvisation as part of their classical inheritance rather than an imported jazz effect.
The programme also makes their family background audible, moving easily between Viennese repertoire, Balkan material and Piazzolla.
