Martin coined “Jazzical” for a practice that joins classical theme-and-variation with jazz improvisation.

When a career-development panel told him that this new music had no future and advised him to remain a classical pianist, he sold his Mason & Hamlin grand to finance the first Jazzical recording himself.

Tracks 3 and 10 both draw on Chopin’s Scherzo No. 1 and repeat the same recording. Tracks 4 and 9 are omitted because their sources have not been identified; the other six tracks have one recording apiece.
