Scriabin’s early preludes grew from Chopin’s example, but his later music loosened its grip on conventional tonality until whole works could revolve around the six-note harmony now called the mystic chord. For jazz pianists, even the quieter miniatures offer chords that feel suspended rather than settled, inviting new routes between them.
