Beets grew up hearing classical music from his mother, a music teacher, and jazz from his father, who loved Oscar Peterson and Art Blakey.
On this New York studio album, his two-part Rachmaninoff arrangement begins reflectively, with room for a bass solo, before the second track swings towards funk.

The classical side contains only the source pieces used on the album, in album order. The jazz side presents the complete album whenever a dependable copy can be embedded.
The classical player follows nine works in album order across six composers. Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto appears as movements I and III, one for each of the two tracks. The Flight of the Bumblebee returns later in the album and is played again.
