Borodin
Borodin’s route into jazz sometimes passes through Broadway. The contrasting theme from the Scherzo of his Second String Quartet became “Baubles, Bangles and Beads” in the 1953 musical Kismet, then continued as a jazz standard in its own right. His gift for long, singable melody helps explain why the source can survive so many changes of setting.
