Time Scape draws on David Rees-Williams’s early experience as a chorister and organist as much as his later work as a jazz pianist. Music by Stanford, Purcell, Buxtehude, Elgar, Warlock and Bossi sits beside Bach, Chopin and Ravel, giving the trio material from several centuries of keyboard, church and concert music.

Released in September 2004, the album followed the success of Hidden Colours with a more unusual selection of sources. The less familiar organ and choral pieces prove especially fertile: their counterpoint and long melodic lines give Rees-Williams, Neil Francis and Phil Laslett structures they can reshape without losing sight of the originals.
