Caine reduces Wagner’s huge operatic scores to an acoustic sextet of piano, accordion, strings and bass, closer to a café band than an orchestra.
The group recorded the album over four evenings in Venice in June 1997, and Winter & Winter treated the voices and noises around the musicians as part of the record rather than studio clutter.
