Stebbe makes each of these four transformations a miniature, with none reaching three minutes. The Minuet carries a historical twist: it survived for years under Bach’s name because it appeared in Anna Magdalena’s notebook, but scholars eventually matched it to a harpsichord suite by Christian Petzold.
