Christian Petzold’s name reaches many listeners only after they discover that the famous Minuet in G is not by Bach at all. Anna Magdalena Bach copied it into her notebook from one of Petzold’s harpsichord suites, and its long false attribution has followed the tune into jazz as readily as the melody itself.
