Swantje Lampert was studying law when she fell for the tenor saxophone at 22 and changed course. She went on to study jazz in Vienna and graduated with distinction from Berklee in 2009; Barbara Rektenwald had spent ten years studying both classical and jazz piano. They formed The Female Jazz Art and released Moods in 2010. JazzTimes called the chemistry between them “hypnotic”, saying they sounded as though they had jammed together all their lives.
