Loose Cuts
Piano Works I: Allegro Vivace
Allegro Vivace grew from a single day in a French studio, when Joachim Kühn recorded thirty-nine current favourites without intending to make an album and played each only once. From those performances he chose eleven that formed their own chronology, beginning with Couperin, Bach and Mozart, passing through Coltrane and Ornette Coleman, and arriving at Kühn’s own music. The result also opened ACT’s long-running Piano Works series: a solo recital in which several centuries of music become stages in one pianist’s development rather than separate repertories.
