Richard Razaf launched Classics Meet Jazz at Paris’s Sunset/Sunside. That club setting suited his intention: these pieces had to work as piano-trio jazz, not as classical music with a little jazz colouring added.

Razaf, bassist Rémi Chemla and drummer Thierry Tardieu keep the familiar melodies clear while harmony, rhythm and improvisation reshape them. Recognition is the starting point; the trio’s spacious ballad style gives the album its own identity.
