Alexey Kozlov alto saxophone, Dmitry Ilugdin piano

Alexey Kozlov and Dmitry Ilugdin had worked together for about a decade when they made Переосмысленная классика. With no rhythm section, Kozlov’s alto saxophone and Ilugdin’s piano create their own momentum as each medley moves between several borrowed pieces.

The album first appeared on CD in 2012. A two-LP edition followed in 2014, limited to 100 numbered copies.

The classical side contains only the source pieces used on the album, in album order. The jazz side presents the complete album whenever a dependable copy can be embedded.

The originalsRavel, Fauré, Borodin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Satie, Bizet · classical source works

Tracks 1, 3 and 5 each bring together two classical works and therefore have two recordings; tracks 4 and 6 have one recording apiece, for Wagner’s Tannhäuser and Bizet’s Farandole, because their remaining sections are a film theme and two jazz standards.
