Beirach’s solo-piano record opens and closes with Mozart, turning the K. 488 Adagio into a frame around music by Mompou, Chopin, Bernstein and a run of standards. The quiet Mompou piece is especially characteristic of Beirach, who had already devoted a trio album to the Catalan composer’s inward-looking piano music.
