Composer
Fauré
Fauré taught composition to Ravel, Enescu and Nadia Boulanger before becoming director of the Paris Conservatoire, so his influence extends well beyond his own works. His long melodic lines often carry subtle shifts of harmony underneath them, leaving jazz musicians room to alter the pulse and colour without losing the music’s identity.
